Izuku Midoriya
Izuku Midoriya (also known as Deku) is the main protagonist in My Hero Academia but is the most physically average of the whole cast. He is 5’5″ (165.1 cm) exactly, which is neither tall nor short in comparison to the rest of the students in Class 1-A.
As far as protagonists go, Izuku is a model example. He is determined, ambitious, and undergoes substantial personal growth as the series progresses. However, what sets Izuku apart from other anime protagonists is that he is not special or chosen – in fact he is the exact opposite!
Polite to the point of timidness at first, Izuku’s height can sometimes make him seem weak and vulnerable. But once he is gifted the One For All Quirk from All Might and is accepted into U.A. Highschool, Izuku grows and becomes much more emotionally and physically resilient.
Katsuki Bakugo
Katsuki’s5’8” (172.7 cm) height only made him that much more of a threat to the noticeably shorter Izuku.Katsuki holds himself to ambitious standards and uses his height to present himself as better than other students.
Katsuki Bakugo and Izuku have had a hostile relationship since they were young, when Katsuko bullied Izuku because he was Quirkless.
From the first series, Katsuki’s allegiances are questionable at best. His temper and disdain for anyone he sees as lesser than him means that he comes off as antagonistic, especially when he interacts with Izuku. Being taller than most of the other heroes only heightens his looming tendencies.
But when he starts to grow and develops better control over his emotions, Katsuki’s sensitive side shows more often and he becomes a better person for it.
Shoto Todoroki
Shoto Todoroki is5’9″ (175.3 cm), which is just slightly taller than Katsuki. Despite being only an inch apart, Shoto and Katsuki’s heights are used to present their characters very differently.Shoto’s height and cold personality work to keep other characters away from him rather than put him above them.
Some of the taller characters in My Hero Academia such as Koji, make an effort to seem more approachable because of their height. Shoto doesn’t care to do this.
As the youngest son of Endeavor, Shoto has had a lot of pressure forced onto him from a young age, so he keeps himself closed off from others as a motivation to focus on his studies. But once Izuku breaks through those barriers, Shoto’s kindness shines through.
Ochoco Uraraka
One of the shortest main characters in My Hero Academia, Ochoco Uraraka is only 5’1″ (154.9 cm). Ochoco’s may be small but her emotions are very powerful. Though she is often described as laid back by the other characters, when Ochoco becomes excited or even angry, her reactions are dramatized.
Her happy-go-lucky attitude and her shortness means that Ochoco is often mistaken for naive and weak. But Ochoco undergoes one of the most progressive characters arcs in the whole show.
She remains her empathetic self but also realizes that not everyone is good. Some people are simply evil.
Tenya Ida
Though Tenya Ida is one of the tallest students in Class 1-A at U.A Highschool at 5’11” (180.3 cm), he doesn’t particularly stick out. With a height comparable to other authoritative figures in the series, Tenya can assert himself as a source of authority over his classmates in a time of crisis with little pushback.
His prim and proper clothing choice and formally styled hair make him look like the model student that he is.
Tenya is the top male student in his class, dedicating himself to his studies as Class 1-A’s representative. A title that often acts as a buzzkill when other characters want to joke around.
All Might
It is no surprise that All Might (aka Toshinori Yagi) is one of the tallest characters in the whole My Hero Academia cast at7’3″ (221 cm). What with a name like All Might and the previous title as the Number 1 Pro Hero, it makes sense that he would have a physique to match his name.
All Might’s height is accompanied by his stereotypical superhero look, with raging muscles and a charitable personality. However, his hero persona is just that, a persona.
While All Might remains 7’3″ outside of his persona, he is a lot quieter and less dramatic with a much lankier physique.
Endeavor
Being the second tallest character in My Hero Academia at 6’5″ (195.6 cm) pretty much sums up Endeavor’s (akaEnji Todoroki) whole character struggle. He has spent all of his life trying to surpass All Might to earn the spot as Number 1 Pro Hero, but always fell short.
His obsession to become the best and his personal failures against All Might turned Endeavor into an abusive father and husband. Shoto is a testament to that abuse.
After All Might retired, Endeavor became Number 1 Hero temporarily – a succession that made him look back on how he has treated himself, his family, and his friends are his drive to become the best of the best.This became the start of his path to change.
Tomura Shigaraki
Tomura Shigaraki is the perfect example of a villain even though he is only5’9″ (175.3 cm). This may be considered tall compared to other characters in My Hero Academia, but for a mastermind villain with devastating superpowers, you would expect him to take up more space.
Instead, Tomura is put on the same physical level as many of the heroes, humanizing him and making his actions seem even more vengeful.
Raised with the intention of killing All Might and the symbol of peace that he represents, Tomura is the epitome of a bad guy.
Himiko Toga
Himiko Toga is comparable toOchoco in many ways, even down to their heights where Himiko is just an inch taller than Ochoco at5’2” (157.5 cm ). However, where Ochoco is cheerful and compassionate, Himiko is bubbly and twisted: a villain through and through.
Her constantly manic grin even in the direst of situations could almost seem childlike.But Himiko’s warped ideologies and her blood-based Quirk clearly show otherwise.
Dabi
Dabi (aka Toyo Todoroki) is the older brother of Shoto by 8 years, though they are the same height at5’9” (175.3 cm). Years of Endeavor’s abuse and pressure pushed Dabi to fake his own death and join the side of evil.
Like his father, Dabi became obsessed with pursuing Endeavor’s personal goal of beating All Might to the position of Number 1 Hero. But Dabi wasn’t good enough for Endeavor and so was pushed aside, replaced with Shoto.
Shoto and Dabi are on equal levels physically, but Dabi falls too far into despair to feel any kind of pain the longer he stays with the villains. Where Shoto may need to pull back during a fight, Dabi only pushes further.
Fumikage Tokoyami
Like many of the other students in Class 1-A,Fumikage Tokoyami’s appearance is affected by his Quirk. He is5’2” (157.5 cm), making him one of the smallest male students in the class, but in no way the least mature.
Fumikage’s Quirk of Dark Shadow has given him the head of a bird – specifically a raven. In contrast to the rest of his body, Fumikage’s head seems much larger, making his human body seem smaller than it already is.
With his Quirk being darker than some other students, Fumikage is usually given a wide berth by his peers. Though his morals are constantly in line with that of a hero.
Mirio Togata
Mirio Togata is an older student at U.A Highschool, so is taller than most of Class 1-A at 5’11” (180.3 cm). He is considered to be the top student at U.A. Highschool by the time that Izuku joins the school and was set to become the next possessor of the One For All Quirk.
Because he is a few years older than Class 1-A (18 years old compared to 15), it makes sense that Mirio is taller than most of the main cast.However, Mirio’s mastery over his Permeation Quirk before he has even graduated means that Mirio’s height is as much of a symbol of his power than it is of his age.
Shota Aizawa
Like most authoritative figures in My Hero Academia, Shota Aizawa is taller than most of the students that attend U.A Highschool at6’0″ (182.9 cm).
With a looming height and the Quirk to temporarily take away someone else’s Quirk, Shota is the perfect teacher to keep even some of the taller or more rampant students in homeroom on track with their studies.
Eri
Eri is only the second shortest main character in My Hero Academia at3’7″ (109.2 cm) even though she is the youngest at 6 years old.
As the adoptive grandchild of The Boss (the leader of theShie Hassaikai), you would expect Eri to appear more threatening. But her wide eyes and shortness emphasize how young and impressionable she is.
Abandoned by her mother after her Quirk destroyed her father, Eri’s involvement with theShie Hassaikai only makes her more scared of her abilities. But when she is saved by the Heroes and brought to live at U.A Highschool, Eri gets to be a child again and starts to understand her Quirk.
Momo Yaoyorozu
The tallest female student in Class 1-A at 5’8” (172.7 cm) – the same height as Katsuko –Momo Yaoyorozu’s appearance is certainly affected by her Quirk but in a more underhanded way than some of the other students.
Momo is also the most physically mature student as her creation Quirk relies on extra fat cells to work effectively. Momo’s extra height acts as the perfect storage facilitator for her Quirk’s needs.
Despite her looks, Momo is unconcerned about her mature figure and beauty. Instead, she is a dedicated Vice President to Class 1-A and is looked up to by many of her fellow students for her abilities and smarts.
Kyoka Jiro
Though she is much shorter than most of her peers at 5″ 1/2 (152.4 cm), Kyoka Jiro remains calm and collected even when facing off against much larger foes or even classmates.
Kyoka appears unfazed, often using her Quirk to keep the more annoying students in line. However, Kyoka does have a sensitive side. She tends to worry about her appearance as well as her Quirk the few times that she openly shows emotion.
Yuga Aoyama
Yuga Aoyama’s 5’6” (167.6 cm) height is the only thing that he allows to be average about himself. With a flair for drama and putting himself above others, Yuga likes to hold the attention of anyone who will give it.
Yuga isa few inches shorter thanKatsuki, so while he tries to make himself seem above everyone else, his height does little to emphasize that point. Hence why he tends to overdo it with the dramatics.
Later exposed as a traitor after being forced to work for the villains, Yuga’s personality is shown to be just a rouse for his deep-set guilt of betraying his classmates.
Tsuyu Asui
As a bearer of a Frog Quirk, Tsuyu Asui’s appearance is influenced by her Quirk. At4’11” (149.9 cm), she is the second shortest student in the class but appears much smaller, preferring to hop around rather than run.
Tsuyu’s larger hands and indented mouth also lend to her more frog-like appearance.
Tsuyu takes on the role of the strict older sister of Class 1-A, rarely showing emotion and being level-headed enough to remain logical in tough situations. This means that though she is one of the shortest in the class, Tsuyu is looked to as a leader in times of stress.
Eijiro Kirishima
Eijiro Kirishima may not be the tallest male in the class at only5’7” (170.2 cm) nor the strongest, but this doesn’t sway his obsession with the idea of manliness.Perhaps this stems from his lack of faith in his own Quirk, worried that it is not interesting enough to become a pro hero.
Unlike the typical masculinity-obsessed character in media, Eijiro doesn’t base how manly someone is on their appearance. After all, he is only of average height and strength himself. Instead, he judges how manly someone is based on their character.
Mina Ashido
Slightly shorter than average in comparison to the other females in her class, Mina Ashido is5’2” (157.5 cm). However, her bright pink skin and slightly stockier build compared to the other girls makes her stand out.
Mina’s athletic build is more due to the high levels of energy she radiates, which she then channels into dancing.Her friendly, happy attitude to life (even when she is failing her classes) contrasts with her Acidic Quirk which is very corrosive, making her a fun character to watch.
Toru Hagakure
Toru Hagakure’s height is one of the hardest to guess because her Quirk is Invisibility. But, based on how her clothes float in proportion to the rest of her peers, Toru is estimated to be5” (152.4 cm).
Her Quirk means that the only thing that makes Toru identifiable is the clothes she wears. As such, she often goes into battle with very little or no clothes at all. She uses her opponent’s embarrassment to her advantage though Toru is mostly used as comic relief rather than a serious fighting character.
Denki Kaminari
Denki Kaminari is the same height as Yuga (5’6” (167.6 cm)) but is almost the exact opposite in terms of personality. Denki is just a generally friendly guy, making an effort to befriend even the most unsocial of students (specifically Katsuki).
When it comes to interacting with female students, Denki can be a little shallow.He tries to impress them with his skills but is usually ignored. Perhaps because he doesn’t particularly stand out in terms of looks or academics.
Mashirao Ojiro
It is not Mashirao Ojiro’s height that sets him apart from others in his class – in fact, at5’6” ½ (168.9 cm), he is fairly average. But his large tail makes him hard to miss in a crowd, even though Mishirao would prefer to blend in.
During the series, Mashirao’s Quirk is not utilized as much as other characters. Instead, it is his loyalty and dignity that are prioritized with his character development, making him a committed member of Class 1-A.
Mezo Shoji
Mezo Shoji is the tallest student in Class 1-A by half an inch –6’1” ½ (186.7 cm). This makes him even taller than his homeroom teacher,Shota. It is not just his height that makes Mezo distinguishable from the rest of his class, but also his Quirk which has given him 6 webbed arms.
Mezo is very aware of how horrific and intimidating his appearance can be to some people. After scaring a young girl with his face, Mezo swore to never be the source of someone’s unhappiness, opting to wear a mask from that point on.
Because it is harder to hide his height and his extra arms, Mezo makes an effort to be as nice as he can to anyone and everyone; in a way, it is to make up for how he looks.
Hanta Sero
Hanta Sero is a thin and tall student at5’10” (177.8 cm), an appearance reflective of his Tape Quirk. Despite his average almost boring Quirk, Hanta has found ways of using his tape to work in his favor socially and physically.
He may act like a fool at times, trying to make his peers laugh with his Quirk, but Hanta is also very level-headed. He will not hesitate to correct his friends if they are being unfair or rude.
That being said, Hanta does like to tease other students too, if it makes them laugh.
Koji Koda
At first glance, it may seem obvious whatKoji Koda’s Quirk is. Built to look like a rock – from his6’1” (185.4 cm) height to his pointed, jagged head. Koji looks to be a lot tougher and more robust than he is. But his Quirk is more to do with his ability to communicate with nature, not rocks.
Instead of his height being a source of intimidation, Koji is like a big lovable bear acting as a reassuring force rather than someone to be wary of.
Rikido Sato
Much like Koji, Rikido Sato is6’1” (185.4 cm) but is a loveable character through and through. Despite his Sugar Rush Quirk relying on an excessive intake of sugar, Rikido is very muscular which should be intimidating but is more reassuring to his classmates.
His Quirk also means that Rikido has a big love for baking, which he uses to make friends at U.A. Highschool.
Minoru Mineta
Minoru Mineta is the shortest character on this list and in My Hero Academia at only3’6” 1/2 (108 cm). This makes him even shorter than Eri even though he is a whole 9 years older than her.
Along with his title as the shortest student at U.A. Highschool, Minoru is also the weirdest. He has a very perverted mindset with his main reasoning to become a Pro Hero being so that he can be surrounded by hot girls.
However, Minoru’s Pop Off Quirk makes him a powerful asset for the Heroes, and does prove himself when it comes to his studies.
