As Noah is beginning to understand more about the festive period it’s time to start some new Christmas traditions. On our list is a having a North Pole Breakfast, visiting Santa, donating toys to other children and one that I’m probably going to regret ever starting; Elf on the soddingShelf! What Christmas traditions do you have? I’d love to hear them. On Sunday we had a North Pole Breakfast to announce the arrival of our two elves, Buddy and Tilly Tinseltoes. If this is something that you would like to try here are my North Pole Breakfast Ideas.

So what is a North Pole Breakfast?

The North Pole Breakfast tends to be a sugary feast to celebrate the Festive season. Be warned as you may end up with some hyper children suffering from a sugar rush! Some peoplehave their Breakfast on either the 1st December for their elf’s arrival or on the first weekend of the month as they have more time to set it up. Some even choose to do it on Christmas Eve as a goodbye to their elf.

Setting Up Your Breakfast

There are loads of ideas on Pinterest for some decor inspiration. However, this is obviously space, time and money dependant. So if you want to go all out and recreate the North Pole in your kitchen or have a Grinch themed breakfast then go right ahead. I’d love to see those pics! I partially set up the night before because I have cats! If you are also owned by cats then you will know that anything new or different will be investigated, sniffed at and possibly even slept on. So the table was extended and things were looked out the night before to avoid the above. Then an early start in the morning to set it up properly.

Although I have a few Christmas tablecloths I wasn’t prepared for them to get wrecked with hot chocolate, strawberry juice and other stains so I used a paper tablecloth instead. I bought matching napkins, plates and cups to go along with it too from Home Bargains. I also bought a plate, bowl and tumbler from Matalan as a gift from the ‘Elves’ that Noah could use all through December and in years to come. The table was decorated with table confetti that I already had at home, as well as photo booth props that I picked up one year from Sainsbury’s for 25p.

What you’ll need:

  • Christmas themed table cloth, napkins and place mats. Depending on the age of your children you might just want to go for the disposable option or even the ones they can colour in.
  • Christmas themed cups, plates and bowls. I have a lovely set from Marks and Spencer that I’ve collected over the years but there’s absolutely no way that they are being used while Noah is still little. You could use paper ones or buy some melamine ones that your child could use year after year.
  • Add some crackers at each place setting if you want your breakfast to go off with a bang.
  • Cake stands are good as using as a centrepiece on your table as well as for serving your Christmas treats on.
  • Table confetti really adds an extra festive touch (but does get everywhere!)

What to eat at your North Pole Breakfast

Remember the 4 food main groups; candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.

Again time and money can come into this but Pinterest has loads of different ideas. There are Strawberry Santas, Santa and Rudolph Pancakes, Strawberry and Banana Candy Canes for you to make. Or you can buy stuff instead if you would rather spend the extra time in your bed don’t have the time. You can buy crumpets shaped as Christmas Trees, Festive doughnuts and Mini Yule Logs. For drinks you could have someHot Chocolate with marshmallows and cream, flavoured milkshakes or just plain milk. I made Waffle Christmas Trees by buying Nutella filled waffles and cutting them into triangles. Some chopped fruit for baubles and a pineapple star to top it off. We also had pancakes with a bacon scarf and tear and share cinnamon buns.

North Pole Breakfast Optional Extras

If you are in the ‘I’m not doing that creepy elf shiz’ category then just have the North Pole Breakfast as a special treat. If you are like me and are in the ‘SANTA! Oh My God! Santa’s coming!! I know him! I know him!!’ category then we all know that being extra is not an option!!

  • Elf or Elves. You don’t have to go for the creepy looking ones although I don’t actually think they are that bad. You can pick up some cute looking ones. Noah has a Teddy that’s dressed as an elf so you could use something similar instead.
  • Balloons. You can get elf shaped balloons, balloons to put your elf into or even have your elf hanging from them. I got a personalised one from a local seller.
  • Advent Calendar. Our elves arrived with the advent calendar. I bought the Happyland Advent Calendar last year in the sales so was £15 instead of the usual £25.
  • Pyjamas. Our elves were being generous and brought along these ‘That’s Not My Elf’ pyjamas for Noah to wear over the festive period along with 5 other pairs that I couldn’t help buying!
  • Christmas Photo Booth Props for photos.
  • Books. Some people also have Christmas books on their table or they may even have a Book Advent where there are 24 books wrapped and you unwrap one each day and read them.
  • Santa/Elf hats or Reindeer Antlers. To wear obviously.
  • Christmas Music
